Description

Background: The physical demands in women’s elite football are rapidly increasing and may have increased the risk of hamstring injuries.

Aims: To describe the characteristics, clinical findings and MRI findings of hamstring injuries in female football players.

Methods: Prospective cohort study following the teams in the Norwegian premier league of women’s football for two seasons (2020 and 2021). Hamstring injuries were examined using a standardised clinical examination performed by team physiotherapists. Injury location and severity (modified Peetrons classification) were graded based on the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) by two independent radiologists.
